Actions and indications

Strengthens the Spleen and harmonises the Stomach

  • Qi deficiency of the Spleen and Stomach
  • Tiredness and poor appetite from Qi deficiency, as a mild food-therapy tonic; too gentle to lead a formula where deficiency is marked

Moistens the Lungs and stops cough

  • Dry cough from Lung dryness, with a dry, scratchy throat
  • Little sputum, sometimes streaked with blood

Harmonises and improves the taste of formulas

  • Bitter or acrid formulas that need sweetening and smoothing, without adding Heat
