pregnancy Contraindicated in pregnancy: Ru Xiang, Mo Yao, Chuan Xiong and Dang Gui move Blood strongly and may bring on uterine contractions or bleeding

contraindication Because of its Ma Huang, avoid in high blood pressure, heart disease or cardiac arrhythmia

caution With MAO inhibitors or other stimulant medicines: avoid, because of the Ma Huang

caution Ephedra alkaloids have been linked in adverse-event reports to stroke, heart attack and sudden death, and supplements containing them are banned from retail sale in the US; raw Ma Huang is still dispensed as a prescribed herb

contraindication Suspected internal bleeding, head injury, or a possible fracture not yet assessed medically, where bleeding needs to be stopped rather than dispersed

caution With warfarin, aspirin and other anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines: use with care, since its resins move Blood and may add to bleeding risk
