caution Bitter, cold and draining, it suits true Heart Fire only; in Cold or deficient patterns long use can weaken Spleen and Stomach Yang
caution Given in small amounts over short courses, and not escalated
caution Athletes: it naturally contains higenamine, a beta-2 agonist on the WADA prohibited list since 2017; in a small human study everyone taking lotus plumule for three days went over the urine reporting threshold
