Cautions

pregnancy Use with caution in pregnancy
caution Cold from Spleen and Stomach deficiency, with poor appetite, loose stools and cold limbs
caution Costly and needing precise dosing, so best prescribed by a practitioner rather than taken on your own
caution Genuine pearl is often substituted or adulterated (dyed shell, synthetic calcium carbonate), and heavy-metal contamination is a recognised quality concern; source it carefully
caution Animal-derived, from pearl oysters or mussels, so unsuitable for strict vegans

Interactions

Drug interactions

Medicines whose absorption is reduced by calcium, such as some tetracycline antibiotics and bisphosphonates: avoid taking them at the same time as this calcium-rich material (a class-based precaution, not shown for pearl)
