Actions and indications

Cools the Blood and stops bleeding

  • Blood Heat bleeding (coughing or vomiting blood, nosebleed) or purpura; may be given as a single herb

Calms the fetus and prevents miscarriage

  • Restless fetus from accumulated Heat; can be used alone

Clears Heat, cools the Blood and opens the water passages to promote urination

  • Damp-Heat pouring into the Bladder with scanty or dribbling urine
  • Painful urination, blood in the urine or gonorrhea
  • Thirst

Cools the Blood and resolves toxicity

  • Fresh herb crushed and applied to toxic sores: carbuncles and toxic swellings, erysipelas, furuncles on the shoulders or back, and snakebite
