Releases the Exterior and disperses Wind-Heat by inducing sweating

Pattern: Wind-Heat invading a person with Yin deficiency
Seen in the elderly, after childbirth, in convalescence from long illness, or in any Yin-depleted constitution that picks up a cold or flu of the Wind-Heat type
Fever with only slight chills and a slight dislike of wind and cold; little or no sweating
Headache, the head feeling stuffy or heavy
Cough that is dry or unproductive, or brings up a little thick sputum with difficulty

Nourishes Yin and moistens dryness

Thirst with a dry throat and mouth; the throat may be a little sore
Background signs of deficient Yin, such as a slight build, dryness of the skin, or long-term depletion
Tongue red or dark red, with little, dry or no coat; pulse rapid, either floating or thready

caution Weak digestion, Phlegm-Damp or poor appetite: Yu Zhu is rich and slightly cloying and can make fullness or loose stools worse
caution Meant for the acute stage of an external attack, not for prolonged or unsupervised use

Preparation

Decoction taken warm while exterior symptoms last; Yu Zhu is simmered a little longer and Bo He is added near the end
