Cautions

contraindication Sweating that is already present, including spontaneous sweating and Exterior deficiency with heavy sweat (Tai Yang Zhong Feng), since the herb opens the surface further
caution Yin deficiency with Yang in excess
contraindication Heat patterns, such as a Wind-Heat cold with fever and sore throat, for which a pungent warm herb is unsuitable
caution Large medicinal doses can bring on stomach irritation, hemorrhoids, headache and fever; everyday culinary amounts are simply food
caution Overuse can harm the hair of the scalp and beard, and can cause confusion as Deficiency Heat from depleted Yin rises
caution Allium allergy, which is uncommon but does occur
