Counters the Internal effects of an External Wind-Cold attack. Excess of Yin fluids from Deficiency Cold. Cold-Damp Bi. Warms Spleen and Kidneys, supports Yang and scatters Cold. Lowers the toxicity of Zhi Fu Zi (more so when Gan Cao is added)
Strengthens its action of reinforcing Qi and supporting Yang, for collapse of Spleen and Kidney Yang with cold limbs and diarrhea containing undigested food
Collapse of Yang and severe Source Qi Deficiency, with cold limbs, sweating, feeble breathing, dizziness and a very pale complexion
Kidney Yang Deficiency with declining Ming Men Fire, with aversion to cold, a sore, weak back and legs, urinary frequency and impotence
Spleen Yang Deficiency with vomiting, watery diarrhea and a cold, painful abdomen. Wind-Damp Bi
Kidney and Spleen Yang Deficiency with retained pathogenic water, causing abdominal pain aggravated by Cold, difficult urination, and heaviness and deep aching of the limbs
Yin Cold rising internally so Spleen Yang is not roused, with abdominal pain, Cold and watery diarrhea

Strongly tonifies Kidney Yang where Kidney Yang is Deficient, with low back pain and weak legs and knees. Impotence or infertility from Deficient Ming Men Fire. Yang floating outward because Yin is overabundant (Yin and Yang separating). Damp-Cold Bi of the channels, with aching all over and difficulty turning the trunk. In Kidney Yin Deficiency with Fire Blazing upward, draws Fire back to its source, in small amounts alongside Yin tonics
Scatters Cold and stops pain. Internal and External Cold damage with headache, aversion to Cold, body aches and aching joints. Wind-Damp-Cold Bi with joint spasms and unbearable pain
Boosts the warming action on the Spleen where Spleen Yang Deficiency with Cold-Dampness gives Cold epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Cold-Damp gathering in the Lower Jiao because Kidney Yang and Ming Men Fire are Deficient, causing urinary frequency, cold sweating or spermatorrhea
