caution While taking it, avoid foods thought to stir Wind, such as alcohol, coffee, spicy food and seafood, and avoid smoking
caution Weak or cold Spleen and Stomach: its bitter, cold herbs can cause loose stools or poor appetite
caution Meant for a short course during the active phase, not for long-term use
caution Mu Tong must be Chuan Mu Tong (Clematis); never substitute Guan Mu Tong (Aristolochia), which contains aristolochic acid and has caused kidney damage and cancer
pregnancy Use in pregnancy only under professional guidance, because of Dang Gui and Mu Tong

Preparation

Usually a decoction, with Shi Gao cooked first, taken warm in two portions a day; also made as granules or powder, and can be applied to the skin
